What are some suggestions for my card message?

A card message of "With Deepest Sympathy or "Our Thoughts and Prayers are
With you" are the most common expressions of sympathy and condolences to
a family that has lost a loved one.
If you are family member or a close friend or associate of the deceased,
a card message of "In Loving Memory" would be appropriate.
Traditionally, the casket spray and flowers from the immediate family do
not include a card but rather a banner message.

What is a banner message and what can be placed on the banner?

A banner message is a long ribbon included in the floral arrangement that
contains a message from the recipient. Traditionally, the banner message should
express the relationship of the deceased to the sender of the flowers. For example,
a floral arrangement sent to the funeral of an aunt could read "Beloved Aunt".

What is an appropriate arrangement to send to a funeral?

The two important factors when choosing funeral flowers are: (1) the length of time the flowers will be at the funeral home or church, and (2) whether the flowers will be left at the church or gravesite or taken home by family members. If you wish your flower arrangement to be present at the funeral home or church for visitations a day or two before the service, you should send an arrangement of long lasting flowers, such as carnations and mums. Arrangements containing roses or lilies should be delivered the day of the service.
  • Standing Easel Sprays
These are the most visible floral arrangements at a funeral. They add to the beauty and solemness of the funeral service. But because they have a limited water reservoir, they need to be delivered the day of the service. Flowers in a spray may not last as long as flowers in a basket or vase arrangement. Easel sprays are also more difficult for family members to take home after the service.

  • Traditional Funeral Baskets
These are large fan shaped arrangements that include tall flowers like gladiolas or snapdragons. These arrangements can make a beautiful addition to a funeral service and because of the water reservoir, they can be sent to the funeral home or church a day before the service for visitations. These can be difficult for family members to take home because of the size of the arrangement.

  • Smaller Basket Arrangements
Some people prefer to send smaller or shorter basket arrangements without tall flowers like gladiolas so that family members can easily take them home after the service.

  • Vase Arrangement
These arrangements tend not to have the visual impact of easel or basket arrangements but are long lasting and easily taken home by family members.

  • Plants and Dish gardens
Many people send plants to funerals so that family members can have a long- lasting remembrance to take with them after the funeral service.
